The chaos in my house was a constant source of frustration, but it still didn’t seem to be enough to motivate me to take action.   4. Cleaning induced stress, yet not cleaning left me feeling overwhelmed by the chaos. I found myself in a perpetual cycle of stress levels, where neither cleaning nor avoiding it offered respite. This internal struggle was spilling over into other areas.  The clutter not only impacted family activities, but also the quality of that time together. The time spent with the loved ones, has thus lost its essence amidst the clutter.
  5. Upon further reflection, I realized that I had been operating under a false assumption that cleaning was solely my responsibility and that it was acceptable for other family members to ignore the need for keeping a clean house. As I delved deeper into this issue, I discovered that my own perfectionism may have inadvertently discouraged my family members from participating in tidying up.  It probably sent the message that it was my domain, and they shouldn’t even bother. This realization prompted me to reevaluate my approach to cleaning and consider how I could involve my family in the process, fostering a more collaborative and supportive environment.

How do I get motivated to clean every week

This approach allows me to focus on a single task each day, making it easier to stay motivated and on track. I’ve realized that the ideal cleaning time varies depending on the specific task at hand. For instance, I find it most efficient to clean the dirty dishes after dinner. I appreciate waking up to a tidy, clean kitchen when preparing my morning coffee. As for general tidying, I prefer tackling it once the kids have left for school. They have their own cleaning chores too – they are responsible for their own rooms. They had also picked up the responsibility of sorting their dirty clothes into 3 piles: black, whites and other colors. Consequently, I am left with only our bedroom and all the living spaces to manage on my own: the kitchen, the dining room and the bathrooms.

I myself, when I get anxious or annoyed with the messy house, I find solace in taking a 5-minute break to step outside onto the terrace.
